Who were Saul's sons?
Samuel lists three sons of Saul, while Chronicles twice lists four with only two clearly corresponding names.
- Textual conflict
- Weak tension
- The alleged conflict needs substantial assumptions, such as treating an omission as a denial or figurative language as literal.
- Importance
- Minor
- A local detail in a story, chronology, or inventory.
The family inventories differ, but neither says its named sons exhaust Saul's offspring or resolves alternative names.
An editorial assessment of the quoted passages. Importance describes the stakes; it does not increase certainty. Reading order weighs both.

Saul's sons include Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal
And Ner begat Kish, and Kish begat Saul, and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchi–shua, and Abinadab, and Esh–baal.
