Who carried Jesus's cross?
John assigns the cross-bearing to Jesus, while the other accounts describe Simon being forced to carry it behind him.
- Textual conflict
- Weak tension
- The alleged conflict needs substantial assumptions, such as treating an omission as a denial or figurative language as literal.
- Importance
- Supporting
- A supporting event, teaching, or biographical claim.
Different carriers are named on the same journey, but neither is said to carry the cross throughout or without a handover.
An editorial assessment of the quoted passages. Importance describes the stakes; it does not increase certainty. Reading order weighs both.
